Leaselink boss welcomes fuel duty cut

Rob Pilkington, managing director of the Leaselink International division of Oxford-based online solutions provider, Ebbon-Dacs, welcomed the postponement of the 3p increase in fuel duty in January and the cut from 5p to 3p in August announced by the Chancellor in his 2011 Autumn Statement.

“Given the little room for manoeuvre that the Government has in terms of reducing the national debt mountain, any attempt at economic stimulus like this is to be welcomed.

“Postponing the fuel rise planned for January and cutting the increase in August from 5p to 3p are both very welcome moves, as they come at a time when pump prices are at near record levels and are a considerable drain on corporate resources.

“As a major supplier to the contract hire and leasing industry, we welcome anything that helps keep their fleet customers mobile while lowering their costs.

“In more general terms, the reduction in Corporation Tax from 26% to 25% from next April, as part of a planned and previously announced reduction, will hopefully give beleaguered British companies some respite, although the lowered growth forecasts for this quarter and for next year shows just how much there is to do to really get the country growing again.

“Another welcome imitative is the investment that Government announced in UK infrastructure, with some 500 new infrastructure projects including work on some of our most congested road networks. This will not only create new jobs but will help to keep the wheels of corporate Britain moving, which is essential for economic recovery,” he added.
